Tamaraw Waterfalls

Tamaraw Falls is one of Puerto Galera’s most popular attractions.

This natural wonder is located at Mount Iglit-Baco National Park, and is named after the endangered tamaraw, a small, endangered buffalo that is native to the province.

This majestic natural wonder stands at 423ft (128.3m) and consists of two main cascades. The water is clear and cool, and there are several pools at the base of the falls where you can take a refreshing swim or simply bask in the tranquility of this idyllic oasis.

But the allure of the Tamaraw Waterfalls extends beyond its natural grandeur. Discover the realm of the local Mangyan indigenous communities and unlock the cultural significance held within these sacred falls. Witness their captivating rituals and ceremonies, a testament to the deep connection between the people and the land they call home.

Remember to seek guidance from local authorities or trusted tour operators to ensure you experience this pristine beauty responsibly. It is within a protected area, afterall, so let us embrace the essence of mindful exploration.

The falls are easily accessible from Calapan, and there are several tour operators that offer day trips to the falls. The entrance fee to the falls is ₱30.

Apo Reef Natural Park

The second largest contiguous coral reef in the world and the largest one in the Philippines, Apo Reef Natural Park is certainly a marine sanctuary that you should visit.

Apo Reef Natural Park is made up of three islands. The largest of the three islands is Apo Reef. It has a shallow lagoon with a depth of 2 to 10 meters surrounded by mangrove forest, which acts as a food supply, nursery, and breeding site for various coastal and marine species of wildlife, as well as a bird sanctuary. Its diverse corals cover an area of approximately 34 sq. km. of reef where various fish, marine animals, and invertebrates thrive.

It is a paradise for divers and snorkelers, with the underwater world teeming with vibrant coral formations and a kaleidoscope of marine life, including majestic sea turtles and colorful tropical fish.

Above the surface, pristine white sand beaches and lush mangrove forests await, offering a tranquil escape for nature enthusiasts. Going here lets you in for a truly awe-inspiring experience.

Mount Halcon

Mount Halcon serves as a natural boundary between Oriental and Occidental Mindoro.

Mount Halcon, with an elevation of 2,616 meters (8,583 feet), is the tallest mountain in Mindoro, Philippines, and the 18th highest mountain in the Philippines.

It is one of the top hiking destinations in the country, as well as one of the most difficult mountains to climb, with long, often steep pathways through deep jungle and crystal-clear waters from its rivers.

A challenging route but well worth it once you behold the breathtaking summit with its amazing panorama of a sea of clouds.

Mount Halcon is also home to a variety of animals, including the endangered tamaraw. The mountain is also a popular spot for birdwatching.

If you intend to climb Mount Halcon, you should be mentally prepared for the challenge, be in good physical shape and have prior mountaineering expertise. It’s also best to hire a guide, as the trails can be difficult to navigate.

The best time to climb Mount Halcon is during the dry season, from November to April.

However, the mountain can be climbed year-round.
